Singing River Chapter 1169

NARFE

MINUTES FOR 21 September 1999 MEETING

NARFE Chapter 1169 met on 21 September 1999 at Shoney's in Pascagoula at 12 noon with 10 members attending and 2 guests, Leroy Howell and Wayne Wilkinson. The meeting was called to order by President Sam Weil. After the invocation by Peggy Wilkinson, Sam led the chapter in the Pledge Allegiance to the Flag. There was no Treasurer's Report, as Ray Zajic was in Arizona because of the death of his sister. Irene Hogue read minutes for August meeting and these were accepted.

Sam led a discussion on whether we should have a speaker on Y2K and how to prepare for it-what to do and what not to do. Do we wish to have a speaker on this subject? Sam will prepare something for us for the next meeting.

Subject for another meeting would be "How to prepare wills and how to prepare for probate." Have an attorney speak to us on pitfalls and things to do beforehand. It was decided for next meeting Sam will do the part on Y2K and will see if Bill Pressly will speak to us.

Discussed the Single Dues Referendum mandated by Chapters at 1999 National Convention and the final voting Single Dues Committee consisting of two members from each region. Under this new system each member will pay $30.00 a year of which $10.00 will be sent to the Chapter and $2.00 is sent to the State.

There will be one vote for each 50 members. Paid up Life Members are being exempted from payment of the annual $10.00 fee being required of post 1988 Life Members. All chapters would pay the same amount for dues, and all members would be assigned to a chapter. Life Members would be allowed to vote. We will have to notify our people and find out how they want to vote. If this referendum passes, bylaws would have to amended to change amount of dues. We have 3 months to vote-until December. All members present today voted "Yes".

Discussion was held on making a Proclamation of Appreciation to Veterans and send to newspapers. Tommy Mills will look into this. Martin Hobbs made a motion that Chapter donate to WWII Memorial being built in vicinity of Washington Monument. This motion passed and the amount will be discussed at the next meeting.

The meeting was adjourned.
